東京のまつり

まつり(Matsuri) are native Japanese festivals of sacred Shinto origin. A matsuri symbolizes a community’s unity with itself and the Shinto gods. Sometimes large and boisterous, sometimes small and solemn – matsuri are rooted in the lives of the Japanese. Sometimes adhering strongly to tradition, sometimes watered down by modern commercialism – they can be found in small villages and big cities alike up and down the country.

東京のまつり(Tokyo no matsuri) is a work in progress comprising of images shot at various festivals around Tokyo. All images shot on Fuji film on a selection of 35 mm cameras.
